Creative and Design Specialist

The Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence (GovEx) is hiring a Creative and Design Specialist to join the Communications Team. GovEx works with leaders to build a data-driven public sector that fairly and justly uses data, research, and analytics to better understand complex issues, engage residents, and implement policy interventions that lead to equitable outcomes and transforms the standard of living for underserved residents.

Reporting to the Communications Director, you will contribute to the strategic conception and lead the development of visually compelling creative content, including webpages, social media content, digital campaigns, presentations, print materials, programmatic guides, case studies, stories about grantee work, graphics, infographics, and animations. The ideal candidate will have prior experience designing communications for world-class and mission-focused organizations.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, layout, illustration, and pre-production for all communication materials for the Centers print and digital platforms, including website, social media, learning platforms, email marketing, presentations, case studies, and annual reports.
  • Promote brand recognition for the Center through brand development, management, and asset development activities.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to conceive and develop strategic communications campaigns and content.
  • Develop new tools, collateral, and resources to support programmatic needs, including digital courses and presentations.
  • Help to define requirements and meet delivery timelines for a growing library of tools and resources, including print and digital materials.
  • Support the Director of Communications to continually assess and improve the Centers public and online presence.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Superior organizational skills and ability to set priorities and respond quickly as priorities change.
  • Expert-level experience with image editing and design software (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Proficiency in social media and other digital marketing tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build good relationships with peers and to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collect and synthesize information and provide summary reports.
  • Excellent content creation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and calendars simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work both cooperatively within a team and independently.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • A commitment to a collegial workplace.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
